The Lorne Pier to Pub is one of Australia’s most iconic ocean swims, bringing together competitive swimmers, recreational participants and a lively summer crowd in a single coastal celebration. Held annually in Lorne, this point-to-point event covers 1.2 kilometres from the pier to the beach in front of the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club, just near the town’s pub.
For 2027, the event is scheduled for Saturday 9 January. It is organised by the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club and its volunteers, and is widely recognised as one of the largest ocean swims in the world. The swim is a major fundraiser for the club and its programs, adding a strong community purpose to the day’s excitement.
Swimmers enter the water from the pier and head across Louttit Bay to the finish on the foreshore, with the course known for its relaxed, friendly atmosphere and broad appeal. The event attracts participants of all ages and abilities, from experienced ocean swimmers chasing a fast time to first-timers taking on a classic Australian open water challenge.
Beyond the swim itself, the Pier to Pub is celebrated for its festive shoreline atmosphere and the way it brings the whole town to life. It is a true summer tradition on the Great Ocean Road and a bucket-list event for ocean swimming enthusiasts.
