About this event
Narrowneck Night Run is an evening trail-running event along Narrowneck Firetrail in Katoomba, in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. The out-and-back course begins in daylight with expansive views across the Megalong Valley before continuing into the night beneath the stars.
Runners can choose between two course options:
- 14 km course: an out-and-back route turning around at approximately 6.88 km.
- 24.7 km course: the longer out-and-back route turning around at approximately 12.2 km.
Both courses start and finish at Narrowneck Lookout. Participants are walked from the lookout car park down the stairs to the firetrail, returning to the lookout car park at the end of the run. The route is generally straightforward, with pink tape used to mark sections where runners may otherwise take a wrong turn. Mist can reduce visibility, adding to the atmosphere and challenge of the night-time setting.
Support is available at an aid station near the longer-course turnaround, with water, electrolytes, fruit, lollies, chips and soft drink. Toilets are available near the start and finish area, with an additional toilet near the fire tower turnaround.
Mandatory equipment requirements are weather dependent, but include at least 500 ml of water, a breathable waterproof jacket, an emergency space blanket, a beanie or buff, a thermal long-sleeved top and a headlamp. The event operates a No Water, No Result rule. Headphones are not permitted, while walking poles may be used with care.
With its combination of open Blue Mountains views, forested firetrail and a star-lit finish, Narrowneck Night Run offers a distinctive trail-running experience for participants seeking a challenging evening adventure.
