About this event
Newcastle Overnight is an annual overnight cycling adventure from Sydney to Newcastle, held around the full moon. The 2026 ride marks the event’s 14th edition and is scheduled for Saturday, 28 November.
Riders travel north through the night, following a route of approximately 170 kilometres. The journey includes the recently extended Fernleigh Track, a largely shaded cycling trail through bushland and wetlands on the Newcastle side of the route. The track features gradual slopes and relatively few road crossings.
A traditional tea stop at Mount White will provide a chance to pause, refuel and regroup during the ride. The route also avoids the stairs formerly encountered at the northern end of the bridge, making this year’s course more straightforward for riders and their bicycles.
Newcastle Overnight is suited to cyclists seeking a social, unconventional long-distance ride rather than a conventional race. Participants should be prepared for an overnight journey, changing weather conditions, extended time in the saddle and riding in low-light conditions.
