About this event

Nobbys 2 Newcastle Ocean Swim is a scenic 2 km point-to-point ocean swim from Nobbys Beach to Newcastle Beach in Newcastle East. The course begins near the base of Nobbys Lighthouse and follows the coastline past Shotland Esplanade, the Cowrie Hole and Newcastle Ocean Baths before finishing on Newcastle Beach.

Designed for confident ocean swimmers aged 14 and over, the course combines a straightforward coastal route with views of some of Newcastle’s most recognisable landmarks. Swimmers head out between the reef breaks at Nobbys Beach, turn to follow the marked course south and make a final turn towards Newcastle Beach. Conditions may include swell and chop, and the finishing point may vary slightly according to the rip conditions on the day.

Held on Saturday 23 January 2027, the event offers an energetic way to begin the Australia Day long weekend. Registration closes at 8.30 am, with the swim scheduled to start at 9 am. With its beach-to-beach format, iconic coastal setting and strong local following, Nobbys 2 Newcastle Ocean Swim is a popular fixture for ocean swimmers seeking a memorable Newcastle challenge.
