About this event
The Tathra Wharf to Waves Ocean Swim is a community ocean swimming event held each March on the Far South Coast of New South Wales. It centres on the historic Tathra Wharf and includes a 1.2km “Splash for Cash” open swim for swimmers aged 12 and over, plus a series of 600m age races.
Swimmers launch from the wharf into the clear, protected waters of Tathra Beach, making this a scenic point-to-point ocean swim with a relaxed coastal feel. The 600m course is designed for a broad range of abilities, while the longer 1.2km swim offers a bigger challenge for those looking to test their stamina in open water.
Established in 2002, Wharf to Waves has grown into a major local fundraiser and a highlight of the Tathra community calendar. Over the years, it has also been associated with a broader weekend of activity and family-friendly events, reinforcing its reputation as both a sporting challenge and a community celebration.
March conditions at Tathra are typically warm and swimmer-friendly, with calm ocean waters and good visibility adding to the appeal of the event. Wetsuits are generally allowed, making the swim accessible for a wide range of participants.
