Activity Details
The club conducts outdoor activities on weekends and occasional week days throughout the year. We have general meetings on the first Thursday of every second month in either Bathurst or Orange. Specifics of the monthly meetings are detailed in each club programme.
The Club was founded in 1976 when the then Central Mapping Authority moved to Bathurst. We now participate in a broad range of outdoor activities ranging from easy introductory activities to multi-day trips for the more experienced or adventurous.
Our members have an extensive knowledge of bushcraft and outdoor skills and delight in passing on their experience to visitors and new members.

Central West Bushwalking Club is a member club of Bushwalking NSW.
Remember that the best club for you may not necessarily be the closest club. Although some clubs are purely locally based, most bushwalking clubs offer activities throughout the region. Contact the Club Secretary to discuss your walking experience and the type of hikes and activities they conduct. This will help you to determine if their walks are pitched at the right activity level for you.
You can go on test walks with a new club to decide if it is the best one for you. Most clubs will allow visitors to attend one or two walks before deciding whether to join the club. Others will ask you to go on trial walks before allowing you to join, so that they can determine if you have sufficient fitness to safely undertake the types of activities they organise.
You will also need to consider whether the club members are in the right age group, whether they walk too fast or too slow for your enjoyment, whether the walks are on days that suit your availability, and whether they predominantly organise trips based on public transport or private vehicles. Even if the club usually travels by car, many clubs will assist you to organise a car share to the walk starting point.

Thinking of hiking/bushwalking groups?
Social hiking or bushwalking groups can be organized by a variety of organizations, including local parks and recreation departments, hiking clubs, and online communities.
The benefits of joining a social hiking group are numerous. For one, it can provide a sense of community and motivation, as you have the support and encouragement of others to help you stick to your hiking routine. Hiking groups can also be a great way to meet new people and make new friends, especially if you are new to an area or looking to expand your social circle.
In terms of structure, social hiking groups can vary. Some groups may have a designated leader who plans the route and sets the pace, while others may be more informal, with participants simply showing up and hiking together. Some groups may meet on a regular basis, such as once a week, while others may be more sporadic.
