Hunter River Dragons is an energetic and inclusive dragon boat racing club open to everyone aged 10 years and over. Whether you're a first-timer looking to improve your fitness in a social environment or a driven competitor seeking the adrenaline of racing, there's a seat for you on a dragon boat.
Training and Racing Opportunities:
- Regular training sessions available for all skill levels, from beginners to competitive racers
- Racing in multiple categories including all-women teams, mixed-gender crews, and open divisions
- Race distances vary, with common formats at 200m, 500m, and 2km
- Many clubs offer the first few training sessions free so you can experience dragon boating before committing
Getting Started:
- No previous experience required—full training is provided
- Teams consist of 20 paddlers working together with a sweep and drummer to drive the boat forward
- Commitment of a few hours of training per week, plus participation in regattas
- Clubs can lend paddles to new members; you'll need shoes that can get wet and spare clothes to change into
