On the Day
The day promises to be fun and exciting for everyone. We have a great MC, band and other entertainment organised ready to give you the best possible experience.
To make the day as safe and fun as possible we ask that everyone take the follow steps:
Register prior to the event.
Come around 9:30am to enjoy the pre-walk entertainment.
Enter via the registration marquee on St Kilda Rd side
Photo stations, face painting and entertainment will be there on the day. Merchandise will be available for pick up and for sale on the day.
After the warm up you will head down to the start line and then complete the walk.
After the walk you are free to continue to enjoy our great entertainment or head home.
If you are feeling unwell on the day, we ask that you don't attend. The safety of the Parkinson's community is our number one priority.
Seating - There will be seating provided on the day in front the stage for anyone who needs to sit. Best of all it is prime location for watching the band!
Toilets and Accessibility - We will be utilising the toilets at Federation Square to ensure there is full accessibility for all people. For more information around accessibility at Federation Square please visit https://fedsquare.com/accessibility. For a map of the area with toilets please visit - https://fedsquare.com/map.
Mobility aids - Traveller’s Aid Australia offers mobility equipment for hire from Flinders Street Station. It is recommended that you book ahead for all equipment hire to ensure you don’t miss out. A $100 deposit is required for all equipment, which is reimbursed upon return of equipment. Phone Traveller’s Aid on (03) 9068 8187 or book online at: www.travellersaid.org.au/our-services/mobility-equipment-hire
Wheelchair access - Federation Square has a number of wheelchair and pram-friendly ramps and lifts, and a carpark onsite. In addition, the entire route (4km and 2km short-cut) is located on footpaths and is wheelchair and pram accessible.
Food - Unfortunately we cannot have our traditional BBQ. This year, we will have a coffee van on site for you to purchase any coffee, cold drink and snacks needed.
Water - Fill up your water bottle at water stations located along both courses and in Federation Square, near the steps to River Terrace. You can also purchase bottled water from the onsite coffee van or surrounding restaurants/cafes.
Merchandise - Fight Parkinson’s drink bottles, t-shirts and caps will be available for purchase on the day.
Storage - There are no storage facilities available on site, so try to limit what you bring to the event. Travellers Aid Australia at Flinders Street Station provides storage facilities. Visit www.travellersaid.org.au/luggage-storage for details.
First Aid - Should you require first aid attendance within Federation Square, medics will be available on the day. If you are on the course and in need of medical attention, please notify your nearest Course Marshall, wearing a green volunteer t-shirt, and a medic will be called.
Walking in your local area?
If you can't make it to Federation Square, you can walk in your local area at a time that best suits you. We would love to see photos so make sure you and your team all have your A Walk in the Park t-shirts on and share your photos on social media using the hashtag #fightparkinsons and #awalkinthepark.
Transport and Parking
Public transport is the easiest way to arrive at Federation Square. Flinders Street Station is just across the road. In addition, many major tram routes stop outside Federation Square.
We recommend visiting the Victoria Public Transport website - www.ptv.vic.gov.au to plan your trip in.
If you are looking at driving, parking is available at Federation Square. Please visit www.fedsquare.com/parking for more information.
