About this event
Take on Canberra’s iconic hills in the Five Peaks Challenge, a non-competitive cycling fundraiser organised by the Murrumbidgee Canberra Rotary Club. Starting and finishing at Stromlo Forest Park, the event offers a personal riding challenge through some of the capital’s most scenic roads and parklands.
Participants can tackle up to six peaks: Mount Stromlo, Red Hill, Mount Pleasant, Mount Ainslie, Black Mountain and Dairy Farmers Hill in the National Arboretum Canberra. Although the event began in 2004 as the Five Peaks Challenge, Dairy Farmers Hill was added in 2015, expanding the course to six peaks.
Choose from the shorter 83 km route, featuring approximately 1,370 metres of climbing, or the longer 113 km option, which includes the Uriarra Loop and approximately 1,820 metres of climbing. Riders can also tailor the challenge by completing as many or as few of the peaks as they wish, with distances ranging from approximately 57 km without the peak climbs.
The event is designed as an individual challenge rather than a race, allowing participants to set their own pace and select a level of distance and elevation that suits them. Electric-assist bicycles are welcome. Funds raised support beneficiary charities through the Rotary club.
Whether aiming to conquer all six peaks or enjoy a shorter ride through Canberra’s varied landscapes, the Five Peaks Challenge combines endurance cycling, personal achievement and community fundraising on Sunday, 18 April 2027.
