Swim Thru Rotto is a relaxed open-water swim held in the calm, protected waters of Thomson Bay on Rottnest Island, making it a welcoming summer event for swimmers of different experience levels.
The event has been part of the Western Australian ocean swimming calendar since 1977, and it is known for its friendly atmosphere, clear water, white-sand surrounds and strong sense of community on the beach and in the bay.
Swimmers can choose from two distances: 500m and 1.6km, with the shorter swim offering an approachable option for first-time ocean swimmers and the longer distance suiting those looking for a confidence-building early summer challenge.
The event is scheduled for Saturday 5 December 2026, with registration, race timings and presentations organised around a compact day on the island.
