High Country Flyathlon - Howqua River
Event location
Description
The High Country Flyathlon takes place on Saturday, 29 November 2025 at 7 Mile Flat, Howqua, Victoria. This distinctive event uniquely blends trail running with fly fishing, set along the scenic Howqua River.
Participants will tackle a 13 km course from 7 Mile Flat to Ritchie's Hut and back. There are two route options: the Low Track, featuring 12 mandatory river crossings, and the High Track, which stays dry by avoiding the river.
As a key part of the competition, all flyathletes must catch a fish and photograph it on an official race ruler provided at registration. Failure to catch a fish will result in a Did Not Finish (DNF) status. All fish must be released carefully to minimize harm, ensuring sustainable fishing practices.
