About this event
The Mooloolaba Mile returns to Mooloolaba Beach on Sunday, 21 March 2027, offering an ocean-swimming program for a range of abilities in the sheltered waters of Mooloolaba Spit.
The feature event is the 1.6km Mooloolaba Mile, a single lap of the triangle course that starts and finishes at Mooloolaba Spit. The distance is accessible for newer open-water swimmers while also providing an engaging time trial for more experienced competitors.
Swimmers can choose from five distances:
- 800m Half Mile: an approachable introduction to ocean swimming.
- 1.6km Mile: the signature event and a popular open-water swimming distance.
- 3.0km: a longer challenge for swimmers ready to step up from shorter distances.
- 4.5km: a stepping-stone event towards longer and marathon-distance swims.
- 6.0km: the longest course, completed over three laps and designed for swimmers seeking a substantial endurance challenge.
All courses start and finish in the sheltered waters of Mooloolaba Spit, providing a contained setting for swimmers to test their pace and endurance. The event is part of the World Series Swims program and combines competitive racing with the welcoming atmosphere of a major beachside swimming day.
The 800m event is open to swimmers aged 10 and over, while the 1.6km, 3.0km, 4.5km and 6.0km events are open to swimmers aged 12 and over. Participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian present on event day.
Whether entering a first ocean swim, aiming for a personal best or taking on the challenge of a longer course, the Mooloolaba Mile offers a choice of distances and a memorable Sunshine Coast setting.
