About this event
Moorpanyal Park 1000 is a community open-water swimming event held at Moorpanyal Park Beach in North Shore, Geelong, overlooking Corio Bay. The 1,000-metre swim is promoted as Australia’s biggest free open-water swim.
First held in 2000 with 14 swimmers, the event has grown to attract more than 150 competitors. It remains a welcoming community occasion, with friends, family and supporters gathering along the waterfront and local businesses helping make the event free for participants.
Tea, coffee and sausages are traditionally available for swimmers and spectators, adding to the relaxed, social atmosphere. The event is organised by the North Shore Residents Group and is held annually on the weekend before Pako Festa.
The 2027 swim is listed for Saturday, 20 February at Moorpanyal Park Beach, Geelong. The event status and final arrangements should be confirmed with the organiser before attending.
