About this event
The Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7-kilometre open-water crossing from Cottesloe Beach (Mudurup) to Rottnest Island (Wadjemup) in Western Australia. The 37th annual event will be held on Saturday, 20 February 2027.
Swimmers can take on the challenge solo, as a duo or in a team, with every entrant supported by a dedicated support crew. Solo swimmers must complete a 10-kilometre qualifying swim before the event, highlighting the endurance and preparation required for this demanding ocean crossing.
The course begins at Cottesloe Beach, where the first wave is scheduled to depart at 5.45am and the final wave at 7.40am. Swimmers make their way across the Indian Ocean before finishing at Rottnest Island, with the first arrivals expected at about 10am and the event concluding at 5pm.
More than a test of physical stamina, the Rottnest Channel Swim brings together distance swimmers, ocean enthusiasts, support crews and volunteers for one of Western Australia’s most celebrated sporting events. Participants face changing ocean conditions, long hours in the water and the need to work closely with their support team throughout the crossing.
The finish at Rottnest Island is a rewarding final stretch, as swimmers approach the island’s shores surrounded by encouragement and a strong sense of achievement. Whether undertaken as a personal challenge, a shared team goal or a bucket-list adventure, the Rottnest Channel Swim offers an unforgettable day of endurance, community and ocean spirit.
