About this event
WA’s Big Ocean Relay is a team ocean swim held at North Cottesloe Beach on Saturday, 13 March 2027. The event is part of the Swimming WA Open Water Swim Series and welcomes swimmers of all abilities aged nine and over.
Teams of four can choose between two relay distances: a 2 km event comprising four 500 m legs, or a 4 km event in which each swimmer completes two laps of the 500 m course, swimming 1 km each.
The course is a rectangular ocean route off North Cottesloe Beach. Swimmers begin from the changeover zone, head out from the shoreline, turn north along the back of the course and return to shore to tag the next team member.
Designed for community teams, the relay combines ocean-swimming competition with a lively beachside atmosphere. Teams can take part with friends, club members or colleagues, with each swimmer contributing a leg while teammates and supporters cheer from the sand.
With short, energetic legs and a choice of distances, WA’s Big Ocean Relay offers a spirited way to experience open-water racing, teamwork and the distinctive coastal atmosphere of North Cottesloe.
