Start kayaking on the calm Barwon River with Outside Adventures' She Paddles Level 1 course in Newtown, Geelong. This five-week women-only beginner series is designed for complete novices and anyone who wants a gentle refresher before paddling more regularly.
Beginner Skills on Calm Water
The course introduces the basics of paddling, safety and boat control in enclosed flat-water conditions. Sessions use single sit-on-top kayaks and are built around steady skill development, confidence and time on the water with supportive female instructors.
Geelong Saturday Series
This course runs on Saturdays from 10 October to 7 November 2026, 9:00am to 10:30am, from West Fyans Street Boat Ramp in Newtown. The meeting spot has parking, toilets and a water fountain available.
Who It Suits
No kayaking experience is needed for Level 1. The organiser describes the course as suitable for complete beginners and people who can take part in around 90 minutes of gentle activity with breaks. She Paddles classes are open to women and non-binary participants aged 18 and over.
Equipment and Cost
The $289 course price covers five 90-minute sessions. Kayaks, paddles, helmets and lifejackets are provided for use during class. Participants are asked to bring clothing suitable for getting wet, a warm layer if needed, water, a towel, a full change of clothes and any personal medication.
Booking Notes
Places are booked through Outside Adventures. Sessions may be postponed or moved if conditions are outside the organiser's safe kayaking risk tolerance, with make-up arrangements usually added to the end of the series.
