About this event
The BOWS Marathon Swim Classic is a summer open-water swimming event presented by Bay Open Water Swimmers at Black Rock Yacht Club on Sunday, 10 January 2027.
Swimmers can choose from three distances: 2.5km, 5km or 10km. The course is a 2.5km loop, with the 5km swim covering two laps and the 10km swim covering four laps. The 10km course includes a feeding station channel on each lap.
Each distance offers individual wetsuit and non-wetsuit categories, with assisted entries also available. The event welcomes experienced endurance swimmers as well as participants building towards longer open-water challenges.
The 10km swim may assist with qualification for selected marathon swims, subject to the relevant event requirements. For qualifying purposes, swimmers may need to wear FINA-approved swimwear and use no assisted equipment; buoyancy shorts are classified as wetsuit attire.
Event-day starts are scheduled from 7am, beginning with the 10km non-wetsuit field, followed by wetsuit and shorter-distance waves. Entries include a swim cap, event T-shirt and barbecue breakfast.
With multiple distances and category options, the BOWS Marathon Swim Classic offers a challenging and well-supported way to start the open-water swimming season along the Black Rock coastline.
