Why This Perth Walk Club Bans Headphones and Strava

Just One More Walk Club in Burswood bans headphones, Strava, GPS tracking and watch-checking. Founder Brooke McIntosh wants people to spend their Sunday morning walking and talking.

Everyone walks at their own pace, and the club says no one gets left behind.

The story behind Just One More

McIntosh spent much of 2025 running around Australia to raise money for the Blue Tree Project. In May, ABC reported that she was approaching Sydney after almost 70 consecutive days on the road. People were pulling over on the highway to talk with her.

She had planned a 180-day lap. Her award profile records the completed run as 14,200km in 204 days, raising more than $290,000 for the charity.

The weekly club continues her call for people to talk with each other. It’s a walk, so participants don’t need to be runners.

The club’s rules

The club rules set out six expectations:

  • Walk at your own pace. No one gets left behind.
  • No Strava, GPS tracking or watch-checking.
  • No headphones. Keep your ears open for conversation.
  • Keep conversations private, unless someone is in danger and needs help.
  • Have fun, with no competition.
  • Talk honestly and look out for each other.
