The Cooly Classic is an ocean swimming festival held in Coolangatta on the Gold Coast, with the 2027 event taking place across 15–16 May.
The signature 2km swim starts at Snapper Rocks and follows the coastline past Rainbow Bay, Greenmount and Coolangatta beaches before finishing at Kirra Beach. The point-to-point course showcases some of the Gold Coast’s most recognisable surf breaks and beaches.
Swimmers can choose from four distances: the 1km Cooly 1000, the 2km Cooly Classic, the 3km Cooly 3.0 and the 5km Cooly 5.0. The 1km course runs from Coolangatta to Kirra Beach, while the 3km course extends beyond the standard 2km route. The 5km marathon swim continues towards a turn near North Kirra before returning to the finish at Kirra Beach.
With a range of course options, the event welcomes first-time ocean swimmers, recreational participants and experienced distance swimmers. The 2km event is the festival’s main swim and attracts a large field, while the longer courses provide an added challenge for those looking to extend their distance.
Beyond the water, the Cooly Classic delivers a lively beachside atmosphere, with spectators, surf lifesaving support and the unmistakable energy of the southern Gold Coast. Whether chasing a personal best or enjoying a memorable swim between iconic beaches, participants can expect a challenging and scenic ocean swimming experience.
