San Remo Channel Challenge
Event location
Description
The San Remo Channel Challenge Aquathon (550m swim + 2km run) takes place on Saturday, 21 February 2026, at the San Remo Hotel Motel in San Remo, Victoria. This iconic event, part of the annual Bass Coast Series, is Victoria’s premier aquathon hosted by the Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club.
The race begins on the San Remo foreshore, just south of the pier, with a 550-metre swim across the Westernport Channel to Newhaven on Phillip Island, timed with the ebb tide’s slack water for safe passage.
After the swim, competitors transition at the change station to a 2-kilometre run. The run route crosses back over the San Remo Bridge, heads briefly toward Anderson, then returns to finish in front of the San Remo Hotel Motel.
The event is more than a race—it’s a community celebration featuring market stalls, food vendors, live music, and family-friendly festivities. All proceeds support volunteer lifesaving patrols at Woolamai Beach, Smiths Beach, and the wider Phillip Island region.
Race start time: 4:15 PM; participants must marshal at the start line 15 minutes prior. Registration is online only, with race kits available for pickup at the San Remo Hotel Motel on race day.
