The New Year's Resolution Run on Sunday, 18 January 2026, invites runners and walkers to experience a scenic and challenging trail event in Kowen Forest, located 20 km east of Canberra. Participants can choose between a half marathon and a 12 km course, both featuring a blend of forestry trails and single track through native forest.
The half marathon covers 21.1 km with approximately 680 meters of elevation gain, including a demanding ascent of Mt Amungula, offering spectacular views of Canberra and its surroundings. The course begins and ends at Wamboin Community Hall, initially following a sealed road before entering the forest trails.
The 12 km course includes 8 km of continuous single track with 320 meters of climb, providing a rewarding challenge for trail runners and walkers alike. Safety is a priority, with mandatory gear checks requiring water, a mobile phone, and a snake bandage.
This event is part of the Kowen Trail Run Series and supports the Wamboin Rural Fire Brigade, combining a memorable outdoor experience with community support.
