Description

Event Date:

The Black Mountain Run Up & Power Walk takes place on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, as part of a monthly series held on the third Tuesday of each month. This free 2.6 km event is organised by the Australian Mountain Running Association and welcomes runners and walkers of all levels.

The course begins at the car park entrance on Clunies Ross Street, Acton, Canberra, just east of the Botanic Gardens entrance. The route starts with a mostly flat 800 m section along a 4WD trail beside the Botanic Gardens fence. Participants then turn left onto Frith Road, ascending approximately 400 m uphill. After passing through the Canberra Nature Park gate, turn left onto the signed Summit Trail. Near the summit, follow the Centennial Trail sign to the right for the final 150 m to the finish line at Black Mountain's peak.

This scenic run and walk features a total elevation gain of 236 metres, starting at 575 m altitude and finishing at 811 m. A short briefing begins promptly at 12:45 pm, with participants advised to arrive between 12:30 and 12:40 pm. Timing is recorded at the finish, and photos are often taken and shared by the organisers on their Facebook page.

Whether aiming to improve fitness, enjoy nature, or challenge endurance, the Black Mountain Run Up & Power Walk offers a welcoming and invigorating outdoor experience in Canberra’s beautiful natural surroundings.
